About this deal

There is no danger from this gas, but many people don't like the smell. Ideally, you should ventilate the room well by opening windows and doors for 72 hours. Vacuuming the carpet can also help get rid of the odour. Use the saw to cut the rawlplug off at floor level, as if you were filling a hole. Repeat this with all the holes you’ve drilled. Make sure you use 19mm nails to lessen the risk of piercing through the floorboard into pipes or cables. With this easy-to-follow 4-step guide, you should now be ready to fit your door bar over the carpet.

You need a double-edged door bar with grips on both sides to connect carpets in two different rooms in the doorway. Just as important as measuring the width of the carpet gripper for your doorway is measuring the gap between the floor and the bottom of your door. This is to ensure that you can close your door with the door bar in place. It goes without saying that if the door bar is taller than the gap, you will not be able to close your door. Use this off-cut from the last sheet in the first row to start the second row and carry on in the same way. This reduces waste and also helps by ensuring the joints are staggered. If you’ve chosen to go down the DIY route, make sure you read this article in full. It will help ensure your project is a success. It will also help you minimise mistakes and keep frustrations to a minimum.

Simple Solutions

The above tool will help you choose the best gripper for your needs. Space the nails about 150mm apart around the edges, but 225mm apart in the centre. It’s a good idea to start in the centre of one edge and work across the board to the other side. Here’s how you do it… place your gripper rod on the floor and make a mark with a pencil underneath where the nails are lined up with the floor. After you’ve marked up the space for your carpet gripper, you’ll need to drill a hole and insert a dowel rod. You can then use the dowel rod as a rawl plug for the carpet gripper’s nails. Once you’ve neatly inserted the dowel rod, you just have to hammer the nails in, and you’re done. A perfect installation that will hold your new carpet nicely. How to remove carpet gripper? Now, on to actually removing the gripper… Starting at one end of the room, use a chisel to get underneath the gripper and gently hammer along the length of the gripper to loosen it up. You should then be able to lever the nails/adhesive loose and remove them from the floor to make space for new ones.Using your pencil, draw marks on the floor where the nails are positioned – in other words, exactly where you want your gripper rod installed.

With the holes drilled, insert the end of your dowel rod into a hole. Make sure it’s a secure fit, because the dowel rod is going to act as a rawlplug, giving the nails of the gripper rod something to sink into. They are fixed around the perimeter of the room and are used to help tension the carpet and hold it in place – this stops the carpet and underlay from moving and rippling. A forewarning: Always wear safety goggles. Carpet gripper rods are covered in sharp nails and pins that can easily become airborne when levered off the floor. Be careful, it’s not worth losing an eye to a carpet gripper. It’s also a good idea to wear gloves; the nails and pins are sharp and you don’t want to cut yourself. When you’re happy with the position of your marks, use your drill and drill bit to drill into the concrete floor. Use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of any concrete dust. Not only is it unpleasant to breathe in, you’ll want the area clear of debris to ensure a secure installation.

Once the carpet is fitted, there may be a slight odour which may be caused by the carpet or the underlay. This is called "off-gassing" and is due to chemicals called volatile organic compounds (VOCs) used in household items such as carpet adhesive, paint, and pressed-wood furniture. They evaporate at room temperature, which is why your carpet begins to smell once it is laid in your house. You should always use new gripper rods when you install a new carpet. Old gripper rods can become weak, water damaged and hammered out of shape when you install and remove them. Meaning they won’t hold your carpet in place effectively.
